Foundation in Architecture & Environmental Design:<\/strong>

Accountability, Efficiency & Dedication<\/strong>

The Foundation in Architecture and Environmental Design (AED) programme is one of the programmes offered by the Centre for Foundation Studies, International Islamic University Malaysia and was established in 1997. The programme serves as a preparatory academic pathway\u00a0and feeder programme to the Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design, IIUM Gombak.\u00a0The Department of Architecture and Environmental Design (AED) embodies accountability, efficiency, and dedication in providing a balanced, engaging, and service-driven education. Rooted in the Sejahtera Academic Framework, the programme promotes fun learning, hands-on activities, and ethical development to prepare students for future academic and professional challenges. The programme prepares students for undergraduate studies in the field of the built environment while nurturing Islamic values, academic excellence, creativity, and professional ethics. Students\u00a0are encouraged to become knowledgeable, socially responsible, and environmentally conscious\u00a0individuals in architecture and environmental design.

Aligned with IIUM\u2019s philosophy and the principles of Tawhidic Epistemology, the programme integrates revealed knowledge (naqli) and acquired knowledge (aqli) within the teaching and learning process. Through a holistic learning approach, students develop intellectually, spiritually,\u00a0emotionally, and ethically in becoming balanced individuals. The programme is guided by Qur\u2019anic values, including accountability through teamwork in Surah Al-Hujurat, efficiency in learning in Surah Al-Alaq, and dedication through unity in Surah As-Saff. AED also supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by promoting lifelong learning, collaboration, and real-world excellence for the benefit of society and the Ummah. Students are required to complete 55 credit hours within one year of full-time study. The curriculum includes language courses, university-required courses, and core courses related to the built environment, such as design, graphic communication, mathematics, statistics, economics, and environmental studies.
