Q 1 : What is the purpose of the EPT?
To place students in the appropriate English language levels
Q 2 : Who must sit for the EPT?
All Undergraduate and Postgraduate students MUST SIT for EPT except those who fulfil the criteria for exemption
Q 3 : Who can be EXEMPTED from sitting for the EPT?
Exemption from the EPT is only given to:
- Students who had their First/Master/PHD Degree from English Speaking Countries namely UK, USA, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
- Students who produce valid IELTS (Academic) or TOEFL qualifications (must not exceed 2 years from the date stated on the certificate)
- Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE)
- Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)
- International Baccalaureate Standard Level (SL)
- European Baccalaureate
Q 4 : What is the procedure to ask for exemption from the EPT?

Please go to Testing & Measurement Unit (TEMU) Office at Level 2, CELPAD with the original document and a copy of:
- – Offer letter from IIUM
- – Bachelor/ Master degree
- – Full transcript
- – IELTS (Academic)or TOEFL results
- – Other academic qualifications

Q 5 : Is TOEFL ITP accepted?
No, TOEFL ITP is not accepted. This is because TOEFL ITP is an institutional test. The results are typically not used outside of the institution administering the test.
Q 6 : Is IELTS General Training results accepted?
No. CELPAD ONLY accepts IELTS Academic module as it better fits the needs of students wanting to pursue their academic study in an English-speaking environment or university (higher education). The General Training module, on the other hand, is normally taken by those applying to study below degree level.
Q 7 : I graduated from a local branch of a university that is based in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand for example University of Nottingham Malaysia. Do I need to sit for the EPT?
Yes you do. To be exempted, you need to have completed your studies in a university located in the native countries stated, not a local branch of the university from the said countries.
Q 8 : Are there any notes on the skills tested in the EPT made available online?
Yes, there are notes available for candidates. Please refer to:

Q4: Who must sit for APT?
Undergraduate students: All undergraduate students MUST SIT for APT EXCEPT students who graduated from Arab countries that use Arabic as the medium of instruction.
Postgraduate students:
- All postgraduate students who intend to pursue a program with Arabic as a medium of instruction MUST SIT for APT.
- All postgraduate students who are allowed to write their research/ thesis in Arabic from art/science based program MUST SIT for APT.
- Others: NO NEED to sit for APT
Q5: Who can be EXEMPTED from sitting for APT?
Exemption from APT (for postgraduate students) may be given to:
- Students who graduated from IIUM in a program with Arabic as the medium of instruction.
- Students who have undertaken regular programs of studies and graduated (with Bachelor or Master degree) from Arab countries that use Arabic as the medium of instruction.
*Arab countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates & Yemen.
Q6: What is the procedure for exemption from APT (for postgraduate students)?
Please go to Testing & Measurement Unit (TEMU) Office at Level 2, CELPAD with the original document and a copy of:

- – Higher school certificate (for undergraduate students)
- – Bachelor/Master certificate (for postgraduate students)
- – Full transcript

FAQ FOR TILAWAH PROFICIENCY TEST (TPT)
Q1: Who is eligible for TPT for Public?
- Students who miss eligibility for TPT New Intake.
- Students who are not able to finish Tilawah Courses during the stipulated time.
Q2: What are the requirement for the test?
- Must have registered in Tilawah Courses at least once.
- Not barred from the class during the existing semester.
Q3: When will TPT for Public be conducted?
Upon request by students.
Q4: Where will it be conducted?
Will be informed by the office of TEMU, CELPAD.
Q5: What will be tested?
- Recitation (Oral Test: Surah al-Imran).
- Memorization (Oral Test: ad-Dhuha to an-Naas)
- Tajwid Rules (Written Test: NunSakin, Mim Sakin, Madd)
Q6: What is the procedure?
- Collect form from TEMU office.
- Send a letter to Head of Tilawah Division asking for approval.
- Pay RM250 to CELPAD account.
- Complete the form, submit to TEMU office.
- Sit for exam.
- Take result from TEMU office.
- Update status with Deputy Director’s office.
