ONBOARDING PROGRAMME FOR ACADEMIC ADMINISTRATORS AND DEPUTY DIRECTORS (ADMINISTRATION)

GOMBAK, February 5 – The IIUM Leadership Centre (ILC), in collaboration with the Kuantan and Gambang campuses, successfully organised an Onboarding Programme for Academic Administrators and Deputy Directors (Administration). The programme was held at the Senate Hall, IIUM Gombak, with a livestream provided to the Banquet Hall, IIUM Kuantan, and Studio Al Ghazali 3, IIUM Gambang.

The programme aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of the University’s strategic direction, organisational structure, and current challenges. It provided a platform for new leaders to build networks, strengthen collaboration, and align their roles with institutional priorities to ensure organisational effectiveness and sustainability.

Key Sessions and Highlights

The programme featured a series of structured sessions led by the University’s top management and senior administrators:

  • Opening Speech: The programme was officially opened by the IIUM Rector, Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr. Osman Bakar.
  • Session 1: IIUM’s Strategic Initiatives towards Ummatic Excellence: This panel discussion featured Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Faris Ismail (Deputy Rector, Academic and Internationalisation), Prof. Dr. Mohamed Aslam Mohamed Haneef (Deputy Rector, Research, Innovation and Development), and Prof. Dr. Amir Akramin Shafie (Principal Director, Academic and Internationalisation). The session, moderated by Dr. Siti Zubaidah Anuar, focused on the University’s core strategic goals.
  • Session 2: Good Governance – Human Resource: Madam Wan Najihah Nurashikin Wan Abdullah, Executive Director of the Management Services Division, discussed human resource management and its role in maintaining institutional governance and supporting the University’s workforce.
  • Session 3: Role of the Deans: A panel comprising Prof. Dr. Gairuzazmi Mat Ghani, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Azrul Azlen Abd. Hamid, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Ilyani Mohamed Nazar shared insights into the responsibilities and leadership expectations of a Dean. The session was moderated by Mr. Ahmad Ashaari Alias.
  • Session 4: Issues and Challenges: The final session, moderated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mohiuddin, involved a panel of experts from the Office of the Legal Adviser, Office of Knowledge for Change and Advancement (OKCA), Research Management Centre (RMC), and the Development Division to address current operational and institutional hurdles.

This initiative plays an important role in ensuring leadership readiness and supporting the smooth transition of new leaders into their roles. By exposing participants to governance frameworks and strategic initiatives, the ILC continues to support the University’s overall effectiveness and long-term sustainability.
