The EPT/APT will be conducted during the first week of the orientation programme. Failure in attending EPT and APT tests might restrict you to successfully enroll as IIUM postgraduate students. If you do not fulfill the required band, you are required to undergo Postgraduate Special Language programme before proceeding to the respective programme of studies. (Tuition and academic administrative fees for this programme will be charged accordingly)
Note: An offer of admission issued to candidate who does not satisfy language requirement shall remain valid for a period of two years. Should the applicant fail to attain the required scores within the two years, the offer of admission shall be automatically withdrawn.
An exemption from Rule 1.4. (Please refer to PG Policies at this link: https://centre.iium.edu.my/cps/language-requirements/) may be given to those who have undertaken regular programmes of studies and graduated from universities that use English or Arabic as the medium of instruction or they have proven their English or Arabic proficiency through their experience to be decided subject to rigorous evaluation by Centre for Languages and Pre-Academic Development (CELPAD), Centre of Studies (CoS) and Centre for Postgraduate Studies (CPS).
ENGLISH PROFICIENCY TEST (EPT)
All new students are required to sit for the English Proficiency Test (EPT) conducted during the first week of Ta’aruf. An exemption from EPT can be given to students who have graduated from the following English-speaking countries: UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA. (Certificates from other than these 5 countries are not accepted). Other accepted certificates are as follows:
Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): Minimum Grade C Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): Minimum Grade B English Language GCSE, IGCSE or O-Level: English as First Language- Grade C English as Second Language – Grade B International Baccalaureate Standard Level (SL & HL): Score of 5 in English European Baccalaureate: Score of 70% in English IDEXCEL PTE – Scores of 50 and above
*Certificates from twinning programmes between local institutions and institutions from either the English or Arab- speaking countries are not accepted.

An exemption can also be given if you can present an official score/band report in the TOEFL, IELTS, and EPT (it must not exceed 2 years from the date stated on the certificate).
For local students who have the MUET (Malaysian University English Test) certificate, you may also be exempted if you have achieved the minimum score required based on your Kulliyyah requirement. Please refer to this link for the exemption criteria(page 15-19)
ARABIC PROFICIENCY TEST (APT)
All new students are required to sit for the Arabic Proficiency Test (APT). The test will be conducted during the first week of Ta’aruf. An exemption from APT can be given to students who have graduated from the following Arab-speaking countries with Arabic as a single medium of instruction. The 19 countries are: Algeria. Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, UAE & Yemen.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT FOR IIUM ALUMNI For IIUM Alumni students who have completed the language requirements for APT or EPT during your studies in IIUM (Bachelor degree or Master degree), you still need to fulfill the language requirements of the Post-graduate programme offered to you. Thus, you still need to sit for the latest APT/EP requirement.

The original form duly signed by the medical officer must be submitted together with the original lab result with a scanned report emailed to healthcentre@iium.edu.my. Please provide your matric number, name and programme.
If further information on your health is required, students must comply with the extra investigation (at your own expenses) required before the status is verified by the medical officer as FIT, FIT WITH CONDITION, PENDING OR UNFIT.
