AEDF 0615  GRAPHIC COMMUNICATION

This course is fundamental in introducing the students to graphic drawings and conventions by using various basic tools and techniques to express ideas. It also emphasizes technical graphic representation by establishing approaches for standardization, visual presentation, and technical drawing works for ongoing evaluation and reference.

AEDF 0625  INTRODUCTION TO DESIGN

This course introduces students to the basics of design solving processes, elements, and the ordering principles of design. It also emphasizes basic research activities such as data collection, processing, and analysis, as part of the design process. The course also highlights the importance of communication and management skills in design activities.

AEDF 0664  BASIC SKETCHING AND COLOURING

This course is to introduce the basics of sketching and rendering skills that act as tools for effective visual communication. Students will focus on the basic aspects of descriptive sketching techniques, such as line, shape, form, texture, and rendering techniques, such as tonal values, as well as colour in various medium. This course will explore the principal language of expression of visual thoughts and perceptions in the built environment.

AEDF 0613  INTRODUCTION TO MATHEMATICS FOR BUILT ENVIRONMENT

Mathematics is a fundamental course in the science-based foundation programme of Architecture and Environmental Design. This course introduces students to six (6) topics of general mathematics: Fundamental Concept of Algebra, Function, Coordinate Geometry, Trigonometry, Differentiation, and Mechanics. This course is designed to produce students with a good understanding of mathematics in relation to the built environment to benefit themselves, people around them, and the environment.

AEDF 0623  INTRODUCTION TO STATISTICS FOR BUILT ENVIRONMENT

This course is fundamental in exposing the students to the use and application of statistics in the built environment. This course ranges from understanding the basic concept of statistics to the collection, presentation, description, and analysis of data. This course covers topics on basic concepts, variables and measurements, sampling techniques, data, data presentation, descriptive and inferential analysis.

AEDF 0633  INTRODUCTION TO ECONOMICS FOR BUILT ENVIRONMENT

This course is fundamental in exposing the students to the basic concepts in economics and its direct interaction with the field of the built environment, thus expanding the students’ perspective and idea of the field. This course covers topics on introduction to economics, types of economic systems, the market mechanism, household behaviour and consumer choice, cost and production, market structures, public finance, and land economics.

AEDF 0644  INTRODUCTION TO BUILT ENVIRONMENT

This is an introductory course that serves as a foundational steppingstone for students embarking on their journey into the diverse and multifaceted world of the built environment. This course covers key topics such as environmental management, professions in the built environment, and construction materials. By the end of the course, students are equipped with a holistic understanding of the field, igniting their curiosity and setting the stage for further exploration and specialisation in their future studies and careers.

AEDF 0653  PRESENTATION SKILLS

The course is designed to provide students with the fundamentals of academic presentation skills, formally and informally, in a multitude of settings. This course will cover topics on academic presentation in the built environment, methods of delivery, and etiquette of professionalism in the built environment through informative and persuasive presentations, presentation aids, e-presentations, and delivering presentations.
