From Practice to Publication: Research Opportunities in Sustainability-Led Community Engagement

The Sejahtera Centre for Sustainability and Humanity (SC4SH), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), in collaboration with the CENSERVE organised an engagement session entitled “From Practice to Publication: Research Opportunities in Sustainability-Led Community Engagement.”

Held on 16 June 2026 at the Alumni Lounge, IIUM, the session featured a sharing by the UNESCO Chair in Reorienting Education Towards Sustainability, York University, focusing on opportunities to transform sustainability-led community engagement practices into meaningful research outputs and scholarly publications.

Featured Speaker : Ms. Katrin Kohl, Co-Chair, UNESCO

The session brought together academic staff, administrative staff and researchers interested in sustainability to:

• Explore research and publication opportunities arising from community engagement initiatives.

• Encourage interdisciplinary research collaboration.

• Strengthen research and publication capacity in sustainability.

• Support IIUM’s contribution towards sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The engagement also provided a platform for participants to exchange ideas, explore potential research collaborations and connect sustainability practices with impactful scholarly outputs.
